SYLVIA LEIGH OBERG, age 82 of Woodstock, IL formerly of Dandridge, TN passed away Thursday evening, August 22, 2024, at the Cottingham Hospice House, Seneca, SC. She retired from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department Office in Tampa, Florida. Upon her retirement, she and her husband Wayne moved to Colorado Springs for several years before relocating to Dandridge, TN to be near her sister. They promptly got involved in the community by becoming members of the Dandridge First United Methodist Church, the Dandridge Senior Citizens where she enjoyed playing games with her friends and family and was a member of the V.F.W. Post # 3380 Ladies Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Oberg; her parents, Lawrence and Margaret (Scheel) Steinberg; siblings, George Steinberg, and Virginia McNatt and is survived by her children, Donald (Valarie) Suffern, Wendy (Clay) Hogue, Daniel (Lisa) Suffern, Melanie (Lyle) Kelly and Richard (Kelly) Oberg; Grandkids, Jamie Stigall, Megan Ortiz, Courtney Phoenix, Trisha Suffern, Victoria Oberg, Zachary Suffern, Joshua Suffern, Adam Hogue, Matthew Suffern, and Christian Oberg.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 26, 2024 from 2:00 to 3:00pm followed by the funeral service at 3:00pm at Farrar Funeral Home, Dandridge Chapel with Rev. Darrell Chambers officiating. The graveside interment will follow at Balch Cemetery, Valley Home Rd., Dandridge, TN.
