Shurl Peters, age 72, of New Market, TN went to be with the Lord Sunday, August 01, 2010 at Ridgeview Terrace Nursing Home in Rutledge, TN following a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born in Gate City, VA and lived in East TN most of his adult life, retired from Magnavox in 2004 after 47 years of service, also retired Deputy from Hamblen County Sheriffs Department serving for about 5 years in the 80?s. In the 60?s and 70?s Mr. Peters was a well known race car driver and celebrated many victories. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, neighbor and Christian friend. He was very proud of his three children and often bragged on each of their successes. He enjoyed people and loved telling old stories from his past. He also had a passion for old cars and loved working in the garage and gardening with his friends and neighbors. Shurl was always ready and willing to help others and was loved by all who knew him and will b e greatly missed. Preceded in death by mother, Emily Clark; twin brother and best friend Burl Peters; and older brother Curt Peters. Survivors include his loving wife, Patty (Swann) Peters; daughter, Cindy Peters of Talbott; two sons, Richard Peters of Talbott and Donald Peters and wife Jody of New Market; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins and a host of friends. Funeral service will be 8:00 p.m.,Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at Farrar Funeral Home, Jefferson City, TN with Reverend Tim Collins officiating and music provided by Alan Lamb, Josh and Tanya Greene of Duck Creek Baptist Church. Family and friends will gather 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at Farrar Funeral Home to proceed to Jefferson Memorial Gardens for a 10:00 a.m. graveside interment service. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. prior to the funeral services. The family wants to express there gratitude and give a special ?Thank You? to all the caring staff at Ridgeview Terrace Nursing Home in Rutledge for all the care and compassion you have shown Shurl and even the family during this tough time.
