Sarah M (Sarie Jane) Hopkins Smith age 89 passed away peacefully at home on June 9, 2026, with her daughters by her side. She was saved at the age of 16 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church and was a Charter Member of Sartain Springs Missionary Baptist Church.

Sarah had a special bond with all of her family. She enjoyed gardening and canning and helped teach her daughter Charlotte how to play the piano. She had a talent for being a caregiver, caring for her Mother-In-Law for 4 years, her husband, and many other family members. She instilled this quality in her daughters.

She was preceded in death by husband, Escoe Smith; parents William (Bill) & Pearl Knowling Hopkins; Mother-in-law and Father-In-Law Hubert & Rosa Baker Smith; Siblings: Bobbie Hopkins, Marshall (Doc), Virginia Greene, Bernard, J T, Coy, Ethel Hill, Opal Cameron, and Doug, and son-in-law, Frank Watkins.

Survived by: Daughters Sharon (Dale) Cline, Charlotte Watkins; Brother Rev Fred Hopkins; Sister-In-Law Betty Hopkins; precious nieces and nephews who were dear to her heart. Bonus children who called her “Mom”; Beth Fisher, Rev Phil Hopkins, Wendell Cameron, Heather Kelly Miller; the best neighbors ever and a host of friends and family.

Special Thanks from the family to CARIS Healthcare, ALL of the Hospice Nurses who took exceptional care of Mom, Chaplain Joe, Dennis Daniels for coming and singing to Mom, and family and friends for all the food, calls and prayers.

The family will receive friends on Thursday June 11, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Sartain Springs Missionary Baptist Church with the funeral service to follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Phil Hopkins, Rev Roger Porter, Rev Lonnie Knight, Rev Mike Elkins, and Rev Ronald Winstead officiating. Graveside service will be held Friday, June 12, 2026 in the church cemetery at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Tennessee Baptist Childrens Home, P O Box 2206, Brentwood, TN 37024 or Pleasant Ridge Food Pantry in care of Sue Smelcer, 1921 Pleasant Ridge Road, Talbott, TN 37877.
