Mrs. Rebecca Jane Needham Potts, 87, of Jefferson City, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 16, 2026. Born on September 28, 1938, in Knoxville, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Wayne Needham and Margaret Jane Shaver Needham. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Langdon Richardson Potts.
Jane was a devoted mother and an active, respected member of her community. In the 1970s, Langdon and Jane owned and operated Tijuana Shop, a women’s clothing store in Holston Hills, which eventually led to the opening of the iconic women’s clothing store in Jefferson City, Jane’s Fashion. She later became the first woman to serve as director of the Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce.
She was an accomplished basketball player, scoring the first two points on the court at Morristown High School in the mid 1950’s. Jane was inducted into the Morristown High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2010. She enjoyed cheering for the Atlanta Braves, listening to Elvis Presley, and bringing family and friends together through the gatherings she loved to plan. Jane was a member of First Methodist Church in Jefferson City.
Lovingly referred to as Grandma “P”, one of her favorite sayings was “Make memories and take pictures”. She will be remembered for bringing joy and laughter to everyone around her throughout her life. A few special memories of her include her homemade biscuits, peanut butter pies, sweet tea, and making scrapbooks. She had a true love for coordinating high school reunions, pool parties for co-workers, breakfast birthdays for water aerobics classmates, and celebrating every holiday and birthday with festive wear.
She is survived by her four children: Langdon Potts II and his wife, Anne Marie, of Dandridge; Michael Potts and his wife, Theresa, of Morristown; Janie Potts of Franklin; and Richard Alan Potts of San Antonio, Texas. She is also survived by her brother, Don Needham, and his wife, Margaret; her sister, Kay Garrison, and her husband, Ken; nine grandchildren; Langdon III, Laura, Trey Bradley, Jenna, Andrew, Sydney, Trey, Ryan, and Drew; and seven great grandchildren. She will also be remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City with the service to follow at 1:00 p.m. with Mitch Cain officiating. A graveside service and burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Methodist Church of Jefferson City, 2011 Branner Ave, Jefferson City, TN 37760 or to the Pat Summitt Foundation, PO Box 31002, Knoxville, TN 37930.
The Potts family is deeply grateful for the many expressions of love, prayers, and support shared during this time of loss. Jane’s legacy of faith, love, and devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. A special thank you to Ridgeview Terrace of Life Care for the love and care they provided.
