Phillip Elwin Brown

Mr. Phillip Elwin Brown, age 90, of Morristown, TN, and formerly Jefferson City, TN, passed away at home on Saturday, October 17 2026. Phillip was born in Crutchfield, KY on August 23, 1936 to Arnie and Colen Brown.

Phillip was born and raised in western Kentucky. He and wife, Janice, and their two daughters moved to Jefferson City, TN in 1966. Phillip was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson City for over 60 years. Phillip enjoyed being outdoors, especially in the mountains, lakes, and rivers of East Tennessee. He loved to go hiking, camping, canoeing, motorcycle riding, and white-water rafting.

Phillip spent his career as a business agent for the Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union. He retired in 1992 and spent his first year of retirement living in Hawksdale, Victoria, Australia while his wife, Janice, taught high school as part of an exchange program. Phillip loved to travel across the US and around the world. He and his wife, Janice visited every state in the United States twice, 43 of the 63 National Parks, 6 of the 7 continents, and 41 countries.

Phillip is survived by his wife, Janice June Downey Brown of Morristown, TN, his daughter, Kathy Brown Hart of Willow Spring, NC, and his grandson, Jesse James Johnson of Dallas, GA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnie and Colon Arrington Brown, his daughter, Sherry Brown Johnson, son-in-law, Mark Kevin Hart, four brothers, and one sister.

A private service for the family will be held at a later date.
