Mina "Jean" Insell Thomas

Listen to Obituary

Mina “Jean” Insell Thomas, age 69 of Jefferson City, TN, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 11, 2026.

She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and devout Christian with unwavering faith. To know her, was to love her. She had a true heart of gold and was described as generous, humble, and devoted. She loved sewing, gardening, photography, being outdoors, and bird watching, and she especially loved giving hugs. Despite having more than her share of struggles in life, she always kept a positive attitude and served as a constant encouragement to others, always with a smile on her face. She truly was a beacon of light to all who knew her and she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband and best friend of 30 years, Lloyd Thomas; her daughters, Dana Akard (Adam) of Morristown, TN, Amanda Ressler (Craig) of Hartville, OH, and Casey Meredith of Portland, TN; grandchildren, Jayde, Heidi, Lily, and Mya Brooks, and Eli, Owen, Isaac, and Aden Ressler; brothers, Alan Insell (Ruth) of Knoxville, TN, and Jay Insell of Knoxville, TN; and sister, Arlene Crowe (Bobby Mills) of New Market, TN.

She also leaves behind her very loved “extended family”, the Barnett Family of Calhoun, GA (the heart donor’s family). Because of Britt’s gift of life, Jean was blessed with nearly 14 additional years, carrying on his legacy of love.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Jerald and Martha Insell, and sister, Debbie Slagle.

There will be a Celebration of Life held at Karns Church of Christ in Knoxville, TN on Saturday, July 25, 2026 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Southeastern Institute of Biblical Studies.
