Mary Jean Moore went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, November 27, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Her passing leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and a spirit that warmed every room she entered.
Born on September 3, 1939 in Dandridge, Tennessee, Mary Jean never met a stranger in her entire life. She could strike up a conversation with anybody— once having spent 2 hours talking with a wrong number who called her by accident. People were naturally drawn to her everywhere she went.
Mary Jean was also one of the longstanding unofficial Dandridge informants. If there was something happening in the community, she knew about it. And if she didn’t, she made it her duty to find out real quick by using her vast network of trusted resources . She always said she wasn’t “nosey,” she was just “curious.”
Mary Jean also made it her mission to keep herself looking spiffy. Her hair was never out of place (thanks in part to her weekly standing hair appointment), her jewelry was always shining, and she carried her trusty pink pick in her purse everywhere she went — just in case her hair went flat.
Mary Jean loved the Lord deeply and was the prayer warrior everyone wanted behind them. When she prayed, things happened. Her faith was strong, steady, and full of heart. She gave generously, loved fully, and showed up for people without hesitation. She made folks feel seen, cared for, and prayed over.
She loved and doted on her family dearly, and nothing brought her more joy than caring for the people she cherished most. She was the best wife, mother, mother in law and Nanny that her family could have ask for.
She leaves behind her only child, Todd Moore and daughter in law, Dina Moore; and her only grandchild; Tiffany Moore (Michael Wright, her husband), and her devoted fur companion, Willie, who all will forever miss her laughter, her prayers, her stories, and her unconditional love. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Moore; her loving parents Gene and Mary Ruth Paterson; and her favorite aunt, Annie Fox, who are no doubt thrilled to see her — and are probably bracing themselves for her heavenly updates.
A funeral service will be held at 7PM, Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at Farrar Funeral Home of Dandridge. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00PM prior to the service. Those who loved her are welcomed to come and honor her beautiful life on Wednesday. The family will hold a private graveside service during which she will be laid to rest at Hills Union Cemetery.
Even as we grieve, we rejoice knowing Mary Jean is in glory now — shining brighter than ever, catching up with loved ones, making her first appointment at the local heavenly beauty shop, and praying for our protection and health just like she always did. Her humor, her faith, her generosity, and her unforgettable spirit will live on with us until we meet again.
Farrar Funeral Home of Dandridge is honored to serve the Moore family.
