Mary Evelyn Hodge

Mary Evelyn Hodge went to be with the Lord on August 10, 2026 at Life Care Center of Jefferson City at the age of 84.

Born to Coy Clayton and Sue Hodge in Grainger County, TN.

Evelyn resided in Atlanta, Ga. for many years working for the Baptist Home Mission Board, moving back to Grainger County in 2011 to assist with the care of family members.

Evelyn is preceded in death by parents: Clayton and Sue Hodge; by sisters: Lillie Mae (Polly) Foster, Minnie Belle Greer, Audrey Helen Bullen; by brothers: Eugene Hodge, Cecil Hodge, James Hodge, Robert Hodge, Lewis Hodge.

Evelyn was the youngest of her siblings and the last to pass. She grew up on her parent’s farm on Perrin Hill Rd. in Grainger County. Evelyn graduated from Rutledge High School and attended Carson Newman College. She was a talker and one of her favorite memories was her mom saying “Evelyn, your tongue is tied in the middle and loose at both ends!” Evelyn was an animal lover and had many dogs and cats over the years. Evelyn loved her church and had a beautiful singing voice.

Evelyn is survived by: nieces and nephews: Karen Maxwell, Wanda Roach, Brenda Cameron, Willis Hodge, Shannon Hodge, Freddie Hodge, Kris Hodge, Larry Hodge, Gregg Hodge, Kim Gaddis, Jimmy Hodge, Donnie Hodge, Connie McCain, Shelia Hodge, Sonny Hodge, Randy Hodge Sisters-in-law: Janet Hodge and Carolyn Hodge; treasured friends in Atlanta, Brenda Hendrickson and many, many others.

Graveside service, Saturday, August 15, 2026 at 11:00a.m. at Oakland Baptist Church Cemetery (15050 Lakeshore Drive, Rutledge, TN 37861) with Pastor Stacey Lawson officiating.
