Marlin David Rice

MARLIN DAVID “DAVE” RICE, age 76, of New Market, TN passed away on July 31, 2022 at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Harlan, KY on March 2, 1946 to Banner and Pearly (McKnight) Rice.  He was the youngest of twelve children.  He served in the US Army, where he received a sharpshooter badge and National Defense Service Medal.  He was honorably discharged in 1967.  He was a former employee of US Steel in Jefferson City and retired from the coal mines as a foreman.  Dave was a cancer survivor.  He attended Grace Baptist Church in Dandridge, TN.  Dave loved his family and was their provider.  He never met a stranger and considered his friends as family.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was well known for collecting and restoring his antique cars.  Preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, LeeAnn; son, Jeffery; three sisters and eight brothers.  He is survived by his wife of 53 years who he cherished, Linda Johnson Rice; daughter, Beth (Tyler) Boyett of Mooresburg; sons, Mark (Danielle) Rice of White Pine, and Tim Rice of Chattanooga; granddaughters, Madison, Caitlynn, Haley, Cameron and Maycee; grandsons, Owen “Peanut”, Patrick, Ethan and Thomas; great-grandsons, Noah and Elijah, and Braxton; great-granddaughters Caselynn and Marlee;  sisters-in-law, Carolyn Lindsey and Sandra (Vernon) Clevenger; brothers-in-law, William (Denise) Johnson and Dennis (Rosalee) Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.  Dave leaves behind a testimony of his trust in God, of his faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at Grace Baptist Church in Dandridge.  Funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Perry Davis and Rev. Tom Lindsey officiating.  Family and friends will gather at Jefferson Memorial Gardens on Thursday for a 2:30 graveside service.  Pallbearers will be granddaughters, Beth, Madison, Caitlynn, Haley, Cameron, and Maycee.
