MARLIE JOSEPHINE QUINN PAYNE, age 97, of Jefferson City, TN, left this life Sunday morning, April 17, 2011 at Jefferson County Nursing Home in Dandridge, TN. Preceded in death by her loving husband, William N. Payne, Marlie was the mother of five children: Rose Christian of Hermitage, TN, Ann Payne of Ann Arbor, MI, Bill Payne, Jr. of Jefferson City, TN, Rebecca Young of Hermitage, TN, and John Payne (Susan) of Carnesville, GA. Marlie was a long time member of First Baptist Church in Jefferson City, along with her family. She was an avid reader, quoted classic poetry and loved music. In her younger years, she was a registered nurse at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, TN where she met and married William N. Payne, Sr. Marlie was a fifty-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She has one surviving sibling, Melissa Mae (Jin) Reedy of Tampa, FL, the last living child of George and Frances Quinn of Murphy, NC. Marlie?s grandchildren are Louise Taylor (Jason) of Cleveland, TN, Rachel Young of Memphis, TN, Angela Christian (Tommy Kail), and Sherry Christian of New York City, Ben Christian (Monica) of Los Angeles, CA, Ethan and Asher Payne of Athens, GA, Chloe and Mariah Payne of Carnesville, GA. Marlie?s great-grandchildren are Jessica, Sarah and Jacob Taylor of Cleveland, TN, Robbie and Lake Jones of Memphis, TN. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Jefferson City with Dr. Gene Wilder officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. There will be a reception for family and friends immediately following the service at the church. Family and friends will gather at 1:45 p.m. at Jefferson Memorial Gardens for a 2:00 p.m. graveside interment service. Arrangements by Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City, TN (865) 475-3892
