Lloyd M. Bowman, age 82, of Dandridge, passed away peacefully at his home early Monday morning (July 6, 2026), surrounded by the love of his family.
Lloyd lived a life defined by service, integrity, hard work, and devotion to his community and family. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, a chapter of his life that reflected his deep sense of duty and patriotism.
Following his military service, Lloyd built a distinguished real estate career spanning more than 40 years. As the co-owner of Mays Bowman Realty, he earned the trust and respect of countless clients through his honesty, professionalism, and commitment to helping others. His vision and dedication also left a lasting mark on the community through the development of the Jamaica Run and Deer Creek Golf Courses.
Lloyd was deeply committed to his community and fraternal brotherhood. He was a Master Mason at the Grand Lodge of Ohio and later attained the 32nd Degree as a Master of the Royal Secret in the Scottish Rite at the Valley of Springfield, Ohio.
Golf was one of Lloyd's lifelong passions. Whether he was on the course with friends, sharing stories in the clubhouse, or helping develop courses that others would enjoy for years to come, the game brought him great joy. More than the competition, he cherished the friendships, fellowship, and memories that golf created throughout his life.
Above all else, Lloyd was a devoted husband, father, son, and grandfather. His greatest joy came from his family, and he cherished every opportunity to spend time with those he loved. He will always be remembered for his quiet strength, generous spirit, steadfast character, and the example he set for future generations.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Montie S. Ishmael, and his stepfather, Russel H. Ishmael. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of over 38 years, Verle Jean Bowman; his daughter, Charise Bowman Johns, M.D. (Yancy D. Johns); his son, Ryan S. Bowman; and his beloved grandsons, Aaron C. Johns and Preston W. Johns. He also leaves behind lifelong friends and former colleagues.
Lloyd's legacy is one of service, vision, perseverance, and love. He served his country with honor, built a respected business, helped shape his community, and, most importantly, loved his family with all his heart. While he will be deeply missed, the values he embodied and the memories he created will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has offered prayers, love, and support during this difficult time.
Masonic funeral rites will take place privately. Meanwhile, a committal service with full military honors is scheduled for 12:30PM Thursday, July 9, 2026 at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on John Sevier Highway. An additional celebration of Lloyd's life will be held at a later date; with details to be announced by his family.
Farrar Funeral Home is honored to serve the Bowman family.
