Listen to Obituary

Linda Sue French Hickman Gray, born February 27, 1950, in Jefferson City, Tennessee, passed away surrounded by love and held in the hearts of those who cherished her.

Her life was a tapestry of creativity, warmth, humor, and unwavering devotion to the people she loved.

Linda was the daughter of Herbert “Baby Ray” French and Thelma French, who preceded her in death, along with her husbands, Hal Hickman and Michael Gray. Though she endured great loss, she carried herself with grace, resilience, and a gentle spirit that touched everyone around her.

She is survived by her daughter, Melody Horvath, her son‑in‑law Ryan Horvath, her granddaughter, Grace Horvath, her son, Curtis Hickman, and her beloved “grand pups,” Ariel and Beau Horvath. Linda also held a special place in her heart for her dear friends Eileen and Elaine Fralix, whose friendship brought joy and comfort throughout her life.

A graduate of Bauder Fashion College, Linda had an eye for beauty and a natural talent for creativity. She spent more than 20 years with Walmart, serving as the Craft Department Manager, where her love for ceramics, fabrics, and all things handmade shone brightly. Her passion for crafting wasn’t just a hobby — it was an expression of her generous spirit and her desire to bring beauty into the world.

Linda was a longtime member of Piedmont Baptist Church, where she found community, purpose, and joy. She loved singing in the choir, and her favorite hymn, *How Great Thou Art*, reflected the depth of her faith and the gratitude she carried in her heart. Above all, she adored her granddaughter, Grace, who was one of the greatest joys of her life.

Linda’s warmth, humor, and kindness remained with her until the very end. She had a way of making people feel welcome, understood, and loved — a gift that will be remembered by all who knew her.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Piedmont Cemetery, with Pastor Danny Widener officiating.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Serenity House, Gentiva Hospice, Jefferson County EMS, and Dr. Donna Dillard’s office for their compassionate care. A special thank you is given to Hali (“Bam Bam”) Bunch, Morgan Cate, Misty Cline, and all of Linda’s dedicated at‑home caregivers, whose kindness and support meant so much.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Serenity House in Morristown, TN, or C.A.R.E. Animal Rescue in Jefferson City, causes that reflect Linda’s love for comfort, compassion, and animals.

Linda’s life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her love a legacy that will continue to shine through those she leaves behind.

Farrar Funeral Home of Dandridge is honored to serve the family.
