Lora Jane “Janie” Wilder Slaton age 75 of Dandridge, TN has gone to her heavenly home. Her family announces that it is with great heartache that we had to say goodbye to our Mother, Mrs. Slaton, Mary Poppins and Mrs. Claus who passed away Monday morning, November 10, 2025, at 12:47 a.m. after a 5-week battle with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease. We had no idea how cruel a disease could be until it took someone who never forgot anything or anyone to someone who didn’t know who she was. She was full of light and love as a teacher in Jefferson County at Piedmont School, Maury Middle School and Jefferson County High School. She loved and cared for her students very much. I cannot count the number of her former students who have said she was their favorite teacher. That was her passion, and she always remembered a story about her students. She loved holidays and decorating for them. Her family was her world. Thanksgiving and Christmas were like being a kid in a candy store for her, and this year is going to be so very hard without her. She lived for the snow and did a snow dance every time the weather threatened it. You got your snow Mom. I hope you got to see it and enjoy it as you left this earth to heaven early Monday morning. We love and will miss you more than you will ever know. She is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years Jim Slaton; daughter and son-in-law, Eva and Richard Talley; son, Deke Slaton; grandchildren, Will and his wife Taylor and great-grandson Theo Talley, Ty and his wife Alex and great-granddaughter, Max Talley; Jake and his wife Tatyana Talley and her beloved King Cavalier Spaniels, Pippa and Piper. We have been blessed by having a strong willed, brilliant, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and a friend to so many.
If anyone has a special memory or photo, please send it to us. We plan to print them and place them in a memory box for her to keep eternally. Thank you to everyone for the outpouring of love and kindness you’ve shown. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial gifts be made to 2nd Harvest Food Bank 136 Harvest Ln. Maryville, TN 37801, or Care Animal Shelter, 310 Landfill Rd. Jefferson City, TN 37760 and Dandridge Ministerial Association, 997 Industrial Park Rd., Dandridge, TN 37725. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Farrar Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Darrell Chambers and eulogists Sam Hollingshead and Shea Long presiding. Graveside interment service will be on Friday at 1:00pm at Mt. Zion cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00pm prior to the funeral service.
