James F. Talley

James Fain Talley, age 90 of Jefferson City, passed away peacefully at Jefferson Memorial Hospital on the morning of Saturday, August 1, 2026.

James retired from a mining career, having worked nearly 30 years for the Jefferson City operation of New Jersey ZInc. He later worked as a groundskeeper at Lost Creek Golf Club; and often lent a hand to his cousin, who owned Cherokee Woodworking. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic and dedication to his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bazil & Mary "May" Talley; brothers, Blair & Roger Talley; sisters, Elizabeth (Jim) Cockrum, Jean (Eugene) Smith, and Margaret (Charlie) Devotie. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary E. Talley; daughter, Rita Kimbrough; grandchildren, Cecil & Haley Sartain; several nieces & nephews; and special friends, David (Sue) Moore.

The family will receive friends from 4PM to 6PM, Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City. Rev. Darrell Chambers will officiate the graveside service, which will take place at 11AM, Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens.
