James Ernest Hickman, Jr. of New Market, Tennessee, was born to Ern Sr. and Darlene (King) Hickman, on April 18, 1968. James would soon celebrate his 56th birthday. On the morning of Wednesday, March 6, 2024, James left behind the sufferings of his leukemia-stricken body and the cares of this world. A 1986 graduate of Jefferson County High School, James worked for the Kmart corporation for 34 years and became assistant manager until the local store’s closing in 2019. Having preceded him in death, James joined his father, James Ernest Hickman, Sr, paternal grandparents ‘Mamaw and Papaw’ Bruce and Eva (Hardin) Hickman of New Market, maternal grandparents Alvin and Edith (Dalton) King of Knoxville, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Deeply mourning James’ passing is his loving, devoted mother Belva Darlene Hickman. Mischievously referred to as “Belva dear!” by her “Bubba”, James’ Mom was the heart and soul of his life, and her wellbeing was his priority. Also mourning James is his sister Sandy Shiflet of Morristown. The two of them shared many laughs and have left Sandy with many stories to tell. James loved his home, family, and friends. However, his heart held an extra soft spot for his Boston terrier, Baxter. Baxter already shows signs of missing his “Daddy.” James would be upset if we left out his “Jamo”, Jamia Shalene (McKinley) Cinelli of Ohio. James being only seven months older than his cousin Jamia, the two of them grew up as siblings, singing their hearts out in churches every weekend and making memories that will last a lifetime. A Celebration of Life get-together will be announced at a later time. In lieu of floral gifts, etc., monetary gifts to help offset burial cost may be donated directly to Farrar Funeral Home of Dandridge, P.O. Box 1025, Dandridge, TN 37725 for James Ernest Hickman, jr.
