Herbert Howard Norton

Herbert Howard Norton (Herb), 84, of Dandridge Tennessee passed away Monday, December 2, 2024, at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born in Cocke County, TN and was the second youngest of nine children. Born to Ed and Nola Norton. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his brothers Bartley, Roscoe, James, Andrew, Robert, Pedro and one sister, Geneva. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Danielle, and his children Suzanne (Greg) Kelly and Mike (Janet) Norton, all of Dandridge. Survived by his brother, Denver, his grandchildren, Karla (Geoff) Marek of Murfreesboro, Noel Norton of Nashville, Kalyn Marshall of White Pine, Zack Taylor of Knoxville, Isaac, Brennan and Krystah Norton of Dandridge and numerous extended family members. 

Herb enjoyed attending Agape Baptist Church in White Pine until declining health prevented him from doing so. Herb served as the first Superintendent of Dandridge Water Treatment Plant where he retired after 30 years. There he was instrumental in numerous improvements to the plant, as well as the extension of water and sewer lines to serve the growing number of residents, not only of Dandridge, but surrounding areas. For his efforts, the Dandridge Water Plant was named in his honor. Herb’s smile, easy-going demeanor and his great sense of humor made him many friends. Herb’s hobbies included coaching little league baseball, leading boy scouts, serving as a volunteer for Dandridge Volunteer Fire Department, Cocke County and Jefferson Rescue Squad, playing golf and cards with friends and vacations and outings with his family and friends. In recent years, you could catch him riding his scooter through Dandridge, cuddling one of many rescue dogs Danielle brought home, or watching the Vols or Braves on TV. Herb’s (Papaw’s) infectious laughter and smile will be missed immensely by all who knew him. Growing up around Herb Norton meant hard work and tough love but it also meant sharing old stories and funny jokes and spending time together. We will continue to live out the lessons he taught us, to work hard and love harder; and invite all of you to do the same. The family will receive friends Friday, December 6th, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge. A memorial service will follow with Ronnie Trent presiding. Interment will be Saturday, December 7th at 1:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery.
