Helen Mae Hinkle

Listen to Obituary

In profound sorrow we join together in the loss of our friend, our sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Helen Hinkle, who passed away on December 13, 2025.

Born in Knoxville and a long-time resident of Strawberry Plains, a member of Strawberry Plains Presbyterian Church and retired from the First Baptist Church of Jefferson City, she grew an endless circle of friends with her warm smile which radiated from her heart. We were all richly blessed by her… especially her fun and humor.

Those immediate family members which predeceased her and are rejoicing to be reunited with her again include her parents, James A. & Della M. Childress, formerly of Knoxville; brother, James D. Childress, formerly of Knoxville; husband, James M. Hinkle; and niece, Brenda G. Senseny, also of Knoxville.

Immediate family left in mourning are her sister, Betty L. McGhee, of Strawberry Plains; sister-in-law, Vickie Childress, of Knoxville; daughters, Veronica (Rhonda) Powell and Kimberly (Kim) Shields, both of Strawberry Plains; step-son, Ed Hinkle (wife Kay) of Knoxville; grandchildren, Ashley N. Roach (husband, Gabriel) of Jefferson City, Samuel Powell of Stephens City, VA, Dominick T. Cunningham of Strawberry Plains, Faith E. Powell-Hopkins (husband Ben) of Centreville, VA, and Dylan R. Shields of Strawberry Plains; two great-grandchildren, Hank M. Calloway and Beau M. Calloway, both of Jefferson City; and two nephews, Brandon Childress (spouse Elliot) of Knoxville, and David L. Childress.

To all those that she encountered and called her a friend, you are far too endless to list here… and we would expect her legacy to live on such that only God knows the true number of people she impacted before receiving her eternal reward.

A celebration of life will be held at Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City on January 3, 2026 from 4:00 until 6:00 pm.

Until we are reunited…
