George P. Morin, age 96 of Jefferson City, TN, formerly of Knoxville, TN, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2025 at Life Care Center in Morristown, TN following a brief illness.
George was born on April 14, 1929 in Fitchburg, MA and he is the last survivor of the five children of Wilfred and Mederise Morin and is survived by ten nephews and nieces dispersed throughout the North East area.
George was educated in New Hampshire and in Rome, Italy. He was ordained as a Catholic priest at La Salette in France on September 29, 1955. George returned to Massachusetts where he served in various church capacities for twenty-three years. In 1978, Pope St. John Paul II dispensed him from his priestly vows.
George then moved to Tennessee and took up employment with the Office on Aging in Knoxville for the next twenty years.
On May 27, 1982, George married Mary E. Du Fresne at St. Patrick’s Church in Morristown where both had been active in Religious Education. George and Mary were founding members of Holy Trinity Church when it was founded in 1990 in Jefferson City. George continued to be active at Holy Trinity Church as a lector and as a member of its Bible Study Group. George sold his home in September of 2018 and moved into Regency Retirement Village in Morristown where he lived out his final years.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Jefferson City with Father James P. Harvey officiating. The burial service will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens.
