Eula M Allen

Eula Moyers Allen, age 97, of White Pine, Tennessee, went to be with Jesus and Janice while her two granddaughters, Erica and Stephanie, prayed over her Friday, June 24, 2022.  She was born in Claiborne County, Tennessee, to Anna Lou Graves Moyers and Andy Edgar Moyers on May 11, 1925.  She attended elementary schools in Ohio, Indiana, and Tennessee.  She graduated from Morristown High School with the class of 1943.

Upon high school graduation, Eula and her mother moved to Akron, Ohio, where they worked side-by-side in the factory of Goodyear Aircraft Corporation as “Rosie the Riveters.”  They initially riveted the covering on cabins of Goodyear Blimps which were used to patrol the U.S. coastline in search of enemy submarines during WWII.  They also worked riveting the skins on the wings of Grumman Hellcat Fighters, which were the dominant carrier-based planes in the later years of the war.  In a letter of appreciation from Goodyear, the VP and GM of the factory stated:  “We are proud of our Goodyear Aircraft folks who worked to the end of losing a job to win a war.”  If not for Eula, her mother, and tens of thousands of heroic women like them, the war may have been lost.  She was thrilled and honored to be included in an Honor Air Flight in the fall of 2019.  She and a plane full of WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam War Veterans flew to Washington, D.C., and toured all the war memorials including the WWII Memorial which has a large plaque depicting and honoring “Rosie the Riveters.”

After the war, Eula returned to East Tennessee where she enrolled in National Business College earning a certificate in accounting.  Over the years she worked in numerous positions including bookkeeping, lab technician, nurse (LPN), and business co-owner.

On August 3, 1946, she married Robert Carroll Allen just two weeks after he returned home from serving in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee in the South Pacific.  Together they built a life, home, family, and business.  She joined First Baptist Church White Pine, Tennessee, in 1951 where she served as a teacher and on several committees.  She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at a revival and was baptized at First Baptist Church in New Tazewell, Tennessee, on April 28, 1940, at the age of 14.

A resident of White Pine since 1951, she lived in the same house until just before her 96th birthday.  The last year of her life was spent at Life Care Center of Blount County. The family will always be grateful for the wonderful care she received from the amazing CNAs, nurses, and nurse practitioners during her time there.  Near the end of her life, the professionals and chaplain from UT Hospice provided comfort and support.

Eula was predeceased by her much-loved daughter, Janice Carol Allen, wonderful mother, Anna Lou Graves Moyers, and loving husband of 68 years “Carroll.”  She is survived by son, William Steven “Steve” Allen (Carol), granddaughters, Erica Henegar (Travis) and Stephanie O’Hara (Justin).  She is also survived by seven loved great grandchildren, listed in the order in which they came into her life: Abigail Henegar, Alexandra Henegar, Hadley O’Hara, Parker O’Hara, Emmy O’Hara, Anson Engelbret Allen Henegar, and Allen Justin “A.J.” O’Hara.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28th at Farrar Funeral Home in White Pine.  Entombment will be officiated by the Rev. Jerry DeZearn in a private ceremony at Hamblen Memory Gardens.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Memory of Eula M. Allen to Senior Center of White Pine, 1824 Maple St., White Pine, TN 37890 or Leadvale Lodge of F&AM, PO Box 447 White Pine, TN 37890 or HonorAir Knoxville, PO Box 12990, Knoxville, TN 37912.
