David Eugene Scott

David Eugene Scott, beloved husband, father, brother, and Pappaw, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by family and friends, on the 8th day of May, 2024, at the age of 75.

David was born on the 1st of September, 1948, in Orlando, FL, and grew up in many places as the son of an Airman, but considered Luling, TX his hometown. He graduated from Luling High School in 1967 and enlisted in the United States Navy where he served with honor for more than 25 years. He defended his country in Vietnam and numerous other places throughout the world, on land and sea. His dedication and hard work led to his promotion to Senior Chief Petty Officer and subsequent commissioning as a Warrant Officer. David retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 on the USS Constellation (CV 64) in San Diego, CA, as an Electronic Warfare Officer. After retirement, he moved his family to Luling, TX in 1993.

David was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, VFW, and American Legion in Luling. After years of owning and operating a family deli he was appointed as the Municipal Court Judge where he served selflessly for over a decade. His commitment to justice with grace and mercy left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered. In 2008 he retired as Judge, got re-married to the love of his life, Judy, and moved to Dandridge, TN.

As a devout member of Deep Springs Baptist Church in Dandridge, David served joyfully as an elder, teacher, member of the finance committee, and as a board member, and participated in mission trips and Vacation Bible Schools. He enjoyed his collection of guns, patrolling Lake Douglas on his boat, and spending time with numerous family and friends, especially his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a passionate believer in Jesus, and his walk with Christ was contagious. David’s kindness, sense of humor, and generosity made him a cherished friend and family member. A principled man of integrity, he was a pillar of strength and servitude throughout his community.

David was predeceased by his parents, Lyle (Scotty) and Dorothy Scott, his sister Sandy (Cis) and her husband Lester Ingram, his brother Raymond (Spike) Pinney and his wife Marcia.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Judy Sims Scott, daughter Tracey and her husband Jeremy Levens, daughter Jenny and her husband Brian Kogut, stepson Michael Ingram, brother Thomas Scott and his wife Mary, sister Betty-Jo (BJ) and her husband Allen Sonstein, brothers in law Robert (Bobby) Sims, Thomas Sims and his wife Yvonne, and sister in law Carolyn Zajack, grandchildren David, Nora, Robert, and Lucas Levens, Austin Howell, CJ Leonard, Steven Ingram and his wife Lynn, Johnny Ingram, Joey Ingram, and many precious great-grandchildren and honorary children and grandchildren. His memory will live on through his legacy and the impact he had in the lives of so many who consider him family, a mentor, or a friend.

A funeral service to celebrate David’s life will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday the 11th of May, 2024 at Deep Springs Baptist Church in Dandridge, TN. Receiving of friends will begin at 1:00 pm. Burial service to follow at Fain Cemetery.
