David Lewis Hager Sr., 89, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026, in White Pine, Tennessee.

From Fort Myers, Florida, David lived a life marked by hard work, service, laughter, and devotion to his family. A U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean War era, he carried the values of dedication, perseverance, and responsibility throughout his life.

A Master Scuba Diver and avid spear fisherman, David found joy in the water and in the outdoors. He loved working outside, could fix just about anything, and was always willing to lend a hand when someone needed help. He was known for his strong work ethic, his wonderful sense of humor, and his ability to make those around him smile. Above all else, David was immensely proud of his family and treasured every moment spent with them.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Olive Hager; his sisters, Judy Sibley, Bonnie Nottingham, and Nancy Madden; and his brothers-in-law, Gene Sibley and Leroy Nottingham.

He is survived by his sons, David Hager Jr. and his wife, Jeannine Hager, and Michael Payne and his wife, Stacey Payne; his sister, Karen Liles, and brother-in-law, Ed Liles; grandson Tyler Hager and his wife, Jessica, and their children, Paisley and Olive Hager; grandson Kyle Hager and his wife, Kara, and their daughter, Everleigh Hager; granddaughter Sawyer Carr and her husband, Kevin, and their children, Elowen and Jasper Carr; and grandsons Ryan (Ashley) Payne and Eric Payne. As well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and close lifelong friends.

David’s family will forever remember his guidance, wisdom, and one of his favorite sayings: “You have to have a plan.” Those words reflected the practical, thoughtful way he approached life and the lessons he passed on to those he loved.

While his presence will be deeply missed, his legacy lives on through his family, the values he instilled, and the many memories shared by those who knew and loved him.

David will be remembered with love, gratitude, and admiration by all whose lives he touched.

In lieu of a funeral, David requested a celebration of life with his immediate family to reflect on happy memories and funny stories.”

Farrar Funeral Home of Dandridge is honored to assist with cremation arrangements.
