Darryl Steven Veenstra, age 58 of Dandridge, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2026 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
Born January 4, 1968 in Hammond, Indiana, he was the oldest of two sons born to Keith & Judith Veenstra. He joined the US Marine Corps after graduating high school and later built a career in law enforcement. For twenty years, he served with the Lake County Sheriff's Department, retiring as the Deputy Warden of Security in 2018. He then joined his family in Tennessee, where they had already established their new home. Unable to fully settle into retirement, he continued working law enforcement and security jobs; most recently serving as a Corporal with Dollywood Security. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed tinkering with cars, practicing at the shooting range, and exploring through day trips, theme park visits, and vacations.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Keith & Judith; as well as his grandparents, and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Pam Veenstra; son, Michael Veenstra; daughter, Nicole Veenstra; brother, Richard (Dawn) Veenstra; nephew, Stephen (Suellen) Veenstra; as well as many extended family members and friends.
