Daniel Reed Noe,72, peacefully left this world to be with his Lord on Monday morning, September 8, 2025. Dan’s wife, Gaye, was by his side.
Dan was born to Hal and Pauline Noe on February 16, 1953 in Jefferson City. He attended Walters State Community College in Morristown where he was a member of the Walter State Music Makers and made the Dean’s List. He was a charter graduate among the inaugural class of 1972. Dan went on to receive his Bachelor’s degree in Business from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1975.
Dan lived a life of quiet accomplishment and service, a skill he learned at the knee of his Grandmama and Granddaddy Noe who owned ponies and provided pony rides for children. Dan served his community in his working life at the Tennessee Department of Human Services Child Support Program and as a councilman on the Dandridge City Council. As a talented pianist with a marvelous bass voice, Dan served his Lord and his church as a decades-long member of the choir at First United Methodist Church in Morristown. He loved to play and sing gospel hymns though he never used printed music.
Dan was a hoot, a truly good man with a kind heart and a big laugh. He loved the fellowship of his church family while playing piano and singing with them. Dan was a dedicated fan of the Big Orange, catching as many Vols football games as possible. Dan, an aficionado of country music, collected country music recordings for many years. He is remembered as a giver of his time, talents, and anything else he had to offer.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Janie Webb Noe, whom he married in 1976, and the love of his life, his beloved dachshund, Dolly. Dan is survived by his wife, Gaye Glass Scalf Noe. Dan and Gaye had known each other for years, both serving in the music ministry and attending First United Methodist Church in Morristown. They began dating in 2015. Dan and Gaye married in 2018 surrounded by family and friends. Dan and Gaye were enthusiastic travelers, especially loving transatlantic and Caribbean cruises.
Though he had no children by birth, Dan was blessed with a stepdaughter, Leanne Scalf Hankins Barbour (Kevin) and a stepson, Thad Scalf (Beatrice). Dan was further blessed with stepgrandchildren, Mary Grace Bouldin (Matt), Michael Hankins, Marjorie Hankins, Thomas Scalf, Lilianna Scalf, and Elisha Scalf, and great-grandchildren, Henry Bouldin and Charlie Bouldin.
Dan’s family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Dan’s caregivers at Terre Bella and South High Senior Living. Dan continued to give in death as he had in life. Dan’s remains were donated to scientific research with Restore Life USA.
Family and friends will be received at Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge, Tennessee on September 16, 2025, 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will be also be held at First United Methodist Church in Morristown on September 21 at 2:00 pm.
Gaye and the family ask that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Music Ministry at First United Methodist Church, Morristown in memoriam of Dan Noe.
