Listen to Obituary

Charles Lyle “Pop” Wright age 88 of Jefferson City, born in Grainger County, went to be with the Lord on April 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Charles lived a life defined by faith, love, and unwavering dedication. From a young boy attending Buffalo Grove Baptist Church, he built a foundation of faith that guided him throughout his life. He was a man of strong character and quiet strength, whose actions spoke louder than words.

A devoted husband of 66 years, Charles shared a beautiful life with the love of his life, Velma Wright. Together, they created a legacy of love, family, and faith that will continue for generations. He was a proud father to his two daughters, Cindy (Bobby) Haun and Kim (Mike) Wise, and nothing brought him greater joy than the family he helped build.

Charles was a believer in hard work and lived it every day. He dedicated 43 years to Magnavox and spent many years to his true passion, farming, showing through his example that a good life is built with determination, perseverance, and integrity. He passed these values on to his children and grandchildren, leaving lessons that will never fade. He generously gave his time to the community—founding the TSSAA Umpire Association of Jefferson County, coaching little league baseball, and sharing his love of the game with those around him. Alongside his brothers, he enjoyed many years playing baseball and softball, creating memories filled with laughter and camaraderie. For over 40 years, he brought smiles to countless faces as Santa Claus in parades and community events, spreading joy wherever he went.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Jessie Wright; his sisters, Marjorie Sue Wright and Billie Gorman; and his brothers, Billy Wright, Jack Wright, Dee Wright, George Wright, and Luther Wright. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Velma Wright; his daughters, Cindy (Bobby) Haun and Kim (Mike) Wise; his sister, Jean (Dan) Maltba; his brother, Clyde Wright; his grandchildren, Ryan (Chelsea) Haun, Charla (Brandon) Olson, Special Grandson Trey Wise, Connor (Sarah) Wise, and Spencer (Cassie) Wise; and his great-grandchildren, Reagan, Easton, and Griffin Haun, Cooper, Logan, and Tanner Olson, and Lexton Wise.

Charles will be remembered not only for what he did, but for who he was—a man of faith, a man of integrity, and a man who loved deeply. His life is a testament to the power of kindness, hard work, and devotion to family. Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in knowing he has been welcomed into his eternal home, where we trust he heard the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.” — Matthew 25:23. His legacy of love, faith, and hard work will live on in all who knew him.

The family will receive friends from 5PM to 7PM Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City. A funeral service will follow at 7:00. Graveside services will be held at Jefferson Memorial Gardens at 2PM, Thursday, April 23, 2026.
