Charles Ray Newman, also known as “Charlie” to close family and friends, age 81, of Lebanon, TN, went to be with the Lord on November 21, 2025 at home after an extended illness, with his family by his side. He was a member of Calvue Baptist Church in Morristown, TN. He was born to Samuel Gideon “S.G.” Jr. and Beulah Ogel Newman on D-Day, June 6, 1944 at the family farm in Jefferson City, TN. Charlie spent his life as a devoted husband, Dad, Popaw, and Great Popaw. He was a farmer, a volunteer firefighter, a miner, and operated heavy equipment underground in the mines, worked after retirement with M&M Excavating for a while, and loved riding his John Deere tractor with the grandchildren.
He was married to his “Babydoll” Janice Ann Newman for 40 years. They shared a special love and friendship together; you would never see one of them without the other.
Charles is preceded in death by his beloved wife Janice Ann Davidson Newman, parents Beulah Ogel Newman and Samuel Gideon Newman Jr., step grandson-in-law Jeremy Holmes, infant step great-grandchildren Carter Scott Roach and Dolly Patricia Ann Roach.
He is survived by his son: Michael Newman of Palm Springs, CA; daughter: Leanne Carpenter of Kernersville, NC; son: Adam Charles Newman and his wife Nikki of Jefferson County, TN; and step-daughter: Sandi Brewer Castellaw and her husband Chris of Lebanon, TN; grandchildren: Kayla, Kimberly, Kendra, and Issac Carpenter of Kernersville, NC; step-grandchildren: Tara Brewer of Lebanon, TN, Logan and his wife Peyton Roach of Locust Grove, GA, and great-grandchildren: Legend Sanders, and Kaden Ross of Kernersville, NC; step-great-grandchildren: Zavery and Karsyn Brewer of Lebanon, TN, Cash, June, and Jackson Roach of Locust Grove, GA, sister: Mary Drinnon and husband Steve of Talbott, TN; sister-in-law: Linda “Susie” Rhea (Bob) Williams of Morristown, TN; brother-in-law: Jay (Neecie) Davidson of Mooresburg, TN; brother-in-law: Odell (Jama) Davidson of Bean Station, TN; sister-in-law: Jeanette “Sis” Brewer of Morristown, TN; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside inurnment services will be at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Jefferson City, TN on December 13, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. and friends and relatives are welcome to attend.
