Charles Wesley Briggs, age 97, of Dandridge, TN passed away Sunday, May 18, 2026 at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born July 30, 1928. He was the son of Reverand George W. and Lula H. Briggs. Charles was a long-time member of Swann’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where he severed as a Deacon for 72 years. He worked and retired from both U.S Steele and The State of TN. The remainder of his working years were spent as a Bailiff for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office. Charles loved the Lord, working on the farm, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Gideon Internation for 47 years. Preceded in death by first wife and mother of his children Willie Briggs, second wife Doris Briggs, Daughter Janice McKinney, Sisters Cora Hunter, Queen Edmonds, Carrie Fisher, Myrtle Fisher, and Dorothy Sellers, Brothers Carl, Hubert and Roscoe Briggs. Great Grand Child T.J Cate. Survived by wife Dean Briggs, children Gary(Betsy) Briggs, Craig(Terri)Briggs, Son in law Wayne McKinney. Step Daughter Robbie Fain, Grandkids Tina(Scott)McMahon, Renee Morgan, Ryan(Kim)Briggs, Cliff(Danielle)Briggs, Megan(Jordan) Knight. Great Grandkids Amber Cate, Kennedy Morgan(Sean Bledsoe), Dalton(Abby)Morgan, Cole Cate, Kamdyn Briggs, Kenzie Briggs, Hadilee Briggs, Finley and Garrison Knight, Great Great Grandchildren Clayton Russell, Collins Bledsoe, Sterling Morgan, Harper Morgan, Hudson Morgan, and Stetson Morgan.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday May 20, 2026 at Swann's Chapel Baptist church from 3:00pm to 7:00pm. A funeral service will follow at 7:00pm with Rev. Jerry Dezearn officiating. Graveside service will be on Thursday May 21, 2026 at 11:00am at Swann's Chapel Cemetery.
