Bobby Edgar "Bob" Gann, a man whose life was painted in bold, vibrant colors, passed away surrounded by family and love at the age of 84. Known for his fearless spirit and boundless determination, he lived every one of his years with grit, humor, and heart.

A proud Army veteran, he served as a 101st Airborne paratrooper—jumping fearlessly from planes and embracing the thrill that would define much of his life. His passion for the skies continued after his service through his hobby as a single-engine pilot and solidified his well-earned reputation as a daredevil.

An entrepreneur at heart, he built his own path many times over. He opened and operated a paint and body shop and ran a wrecker service in the Piedmont Community for several years, always finding opportunities where others saw challenges. Later, out of pure necessity and determination, he took an interest in excavation—work that began with maintaining his mobile home park and grew into a business helping others with their own projects.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter “Clabe” Gann; mother, Geneva Wilson Gann; and brothers, Bill and Robby Gann.

He leaves behind his faithful wife of 47 years, Freda Henry Gann; his children, Bobby Kyle Gann, Dianne Walker (Jeff), Joe Mattern (Barbara) and Lisa Gann; and his grandchildren, Alexa Gilreath-Smith (Josh), Lindsey Walker Maples (Josh), Brandon Walker, Jacob Mattern (Andrea Amet) and Landon Gann. He was also blessed with three great-grandchildren and several special nieces and nephews who will carry forward his stories, laughter, and love of life.

He cherished the friendship of many who shared his life’s adventures, especially Mike Broughton and James Prater who maintained a bond with Bob through the years.

Bob had a strong belief in God and often said the Lord had saved him more times than he deserved. Carrying his faith quietly, he was a long-time member of Deep Spring Baptist Church in Dandridge.

A man of courage, creativity, and conviction, Bob never let fear—or convention—dictate his path. His legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the risks he took, and the love he shared.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Nicole and the entire Amedisys Hospice team for their compassionate care and support during his final days. Graveside funeral services will be held, Monday 2:00pm at Hillcrest Cemetery with  Military Honors, and Pastor Aaron Thurman and Pastor Danny Matthews officiating the service. Family will greet friends before and after the service.
