Billy E. Thornton

Billy E. Thornton, age 94 of (the Chestnut Hill Community) Dandridge, TN passed away Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Jefferson Park.  He was a member of the Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church and was retired from Bush Bros & Co. after 47 years of service.  Billy was an active member of the Chestnut Hill Ruritan Club. He enjoyed attending all the area horse shows and worked and volunteered at the Chestnut Hill Charity Horseshow for many years, and was an avid supporter of the Chestnut Hill Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed square dances with his wife Reva and having a good time with family and friends.  Billy was a loving father, grandfather and great provider to his family.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Reva Derrick Thornton and his beloved mother, Ruth Thornton.

He is survived by his children, Terry (Pat) Thornton, Tena L. Brockwell (Larry) Walker; grandchildren, Tim (Christie) Wolfenbarger, Amy (Brian) Horton, Derrick (Julie) Brockwell, and Jamie (Danny) O’Donoghue; 9 great grandchildren; a great-great grandson; sister, Wanda Clevenger and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Chestnut Hill Volunteer Fire Department, 2418 McGaha Hollow Road, Dandridge, TN 37725 or the Chestnut Hill United Methodist Cemetery Fund, 2422 Chestnut Hill Church Road, Dandridge, TN 37725.

A Graveside Service will be held Sunday, September 4, 2022 at 12:00 noon at Chestnut Hill Cemetery with Reverend Stacie Morgan and Reverend John Clark officiating.  The body will lie in state on Saturday, September 3, 2022 from 11:00am to 4:00pm at Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge.
