LYDIA ANN (MOORE) RIVES, age 92, of Jefferson City, TN born February 16, 1926 to Charles T. and Nobie H. Moore in Memphis, TN died November 22, 2018 while living at Signature Lifestyles of Jefferson City. Lydia graduated from Central High School in Memphis in 1944. She attended Carson-Newman College and graduated with a B. S. Degree in Chemistry in 1948. While at Carson-Newman, Lydia met her late husband, James “Jim” F. Rives, having three children and following him to numerous locations throughout the south with his work for the National Staff of the American Red Cross and his two stints in the U. S. Army (WWII and Korean War). Lydia and her family lived in El Paso, TX, Hopkinsville, KY, Ft. McClellan, AL, Beaufort, SC, Huntsville, AL, Augusta, GA, Hinesville, GA, and many years in East Tennessee. When Jim went overseas, Lydia worked at Carson-Newman College on Research Grants doing Cancer and TB Research to name a couple. She had many hobbies to include gardening, painting, reading, puzzling (crossword and jigsaw), and a general love for life. She was very active at First Baptist Church in Sunday School and many other activities and a member of Friends of the Library in Jefferson City, TN. Lydia is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 50 years; and her daughter, Jenny Ann Rives Rosenberger. She is survived by her son, William F. “Bill” Rives and his wife, Kimberly, and their son, Cody Rives, all of Corryton, TN; daughter, Carol Rives Smith and her husband, John W. Smith from Gulf Shores, AL, and their daughter, Ashley L. Miller and her husband, Andrew R. Miller from Huntsville, AL; with her three great-grandchildren, Parker and Payton Miller and Mackenzie Carden; grandson, Eric Rosenberger and wife Diane; and granddaughter, Katie Rosenberger, all from Northern VA; several cousins, Martha Wilson of Jefferson City, TN, Frank Moore and wife Jerri of Shreveport, LA, and Bill Moore and wife Nancy from Athens, GA; brother-in-law, Oscar Brooks of Liberty, Missouri. A special thank you to her dear caretaker and friend, June Bolden of Dandridge, TN, who loved and tirelessly cared for Lydia in her final few years. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 26, 2018 at Farrar Funeral Home. Memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with First Baptist Senior Pastor, Bill Rosser and Deacon Karen Smith officiating. Graveside interment service will follow at Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either Calvary Road Ministries, 4100 Fulton Road, Corryton, TN 37721 which sponsors her son, Bill’s, many mission trips to Kenya; or Carson-Newman Science Department or First Baptist Church of Jefferson City - Missions.
