Founder

Mr. Roy E. Farrar, Sr. was a graduate of the John A. Gupton College of Embalming Class of 1923 in Nashville, Tennessee and he was the first licensed embalmer in Jefferson County, Tennessee. He was the founder of Farrar Funeral Home, who along with his three sons, James, Toad, and Joe, operated the three locations. He passed away in 1984, leaving the business to his sons for continued service to the community.

Mr. Jim Farrar passed away at his home on Thursday, June 28, 2012. Mr. Farrar was the eldest son of the late Roy E. Farrar, Sr. and was employed with the firm for more than 60 years. He was co-owner of the firm and successfully continued his father’s organization. He was a licensed funeral director and embalmer in the State of Tennessee and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson City. Jim was married to the former Agnes Watkins of Talbott and they have three children, James Russell Farrar, William Roy Farrar (deceased), and Britt Clayton Farrar.

R.E. "TOAD" FARRAR

Mr. Toad Farrar passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. Toad was the middle son of the late R.E. Farrar, Sr. and was employed with the firm for more than 55 years. He was co-owner of the firm and successfully continued his father’s organization. He was a licensed funeral director and a licensed embalmer in the State of Tennessee and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Dandridge. He was married to the former Helen Ward of Jefferson City and they have three children, R.E. “Rick’ Farrar III, Pamela Farrar, and W. Jackson Farrar.

Mr. Joe Farrar passed away on Friday, April 15, 2005 at his home after a brief illness. He was the youngest son of the late R. E. and Aline Farrar and was employed by the firm for more than 50 years. He was a licensed funeral director and active in the Leadvale Baptist Church and many other community activities. Joe was married to the former Betty Goforth and they have two children, Sherri Pewitt and Angela Pressley. Joe's funeral was held on Sunday, April 17, 2005 at the Leadvale Baptist Church.

WILLIAM ROY FARRAR

Mr. Bill Farrar passed away on July 2, 1995 as a result of a tragic scuba-diving accident. Bill was the middle son of James and Agnes Farrar. He was a graduate of Carson-Newman College and John A. Gupton College of Mortuary Science. Bill was with the firm for more than 20 years as funeral director and embalmer. He was married to the former Mary Choate of Jefferson City and they have one son, Clay Farrar.
