Glenn Leon Lynch

GLENN LEON LYNCH, of Jefferson City, TN, born March 21, 1934, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2015. Glenn grew up in Bulls Gap and later moved to Knoxville, where he delivered newspapers and groceries by bicycle before dropping out of high school to work full-time for the White Store grocery chain. While working his way from bag boy to meat cutter to store manager, Glenn met and married the love of his life, Mabel Jean Hodge. While managing the White Store in Jefferson City, Glenn hired and mentored a host of young men and women, knew everyone in town by name, and was a favorite of everyone he met. Glenn, Jean and daughter Hope enjoyed many camping trips to Cades Cove, Elkmont and Myrtle Beach. Even though he couldn’t swim, Glenn always rode the waves with Hope so she wouldn’t be in the water alone. Grandsons Sean and Bryan joined the family, and Pap instilled a love of history in both boys by becoming Civil War re-enactors, where they spent many hours at events with fellow enthusiasts and made friends far and near. He put many miles on the big red truck going to events and driving the boys to school, sports practices and games and was a constant presence in the stands. In retirement, Glenn also worked with the Jefferson County Habitat for Humanity building homes for others. Slowed in recent years by various health problems, Glenn moved into LifeCare of Jefferson City in March 2014 where Jean visited daily and they always said “I love you” when she left. Glenn is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mabel Jean Hodge Lynch; daughter, Hope Lynch Cooper; grandsons, Sean and wife Kristen; Bryan and fiancé Charly; great-granddaughters, Caleigh and Baylee. We thank all the staff at LifeCare for taking care of our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather with such patience and kindness these past 14 months. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 25, 2015 at Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Family and friends will meet at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday morning at Oakland Baptist Cemetery on Lakeshore Road in Rutledge for a graveside interment service with Dr. Gene Wilder and Rev.
